Dedication

WIth the help of rest and strengthening exercises, she is recovering from her injuries. Her dedication and love of the sport of gymnastics is evident.

The chandelier

For months, a momentous event has been underway in our family: my in-laws are moving out of the home they built and have lived in for more than 40 years.

As you can imagine, my focus has been on capturing and documenting as much of the move as possible through photos. I will share more in future blog posts; for now, I would like to share this moment from the move.

Upon discovering that the dining room was empty, our daughter said, “Mom, I’ve always wanted to touch the chandelier! Is it OK?” I nodded, focused my camera on her as she slowly reached up to touch the chandelier, and captured her excitement.

An empty house can be a wonderful place of discovery and adventure, especially from a child’s perspective.

Believe, Dream, Inspire

For those of you who follow my blog, you know that our oldest daughter loves playing football. Her artwork reflects this love, too.

Here is her entry into the PTA Reflections Arts Recognition Program Contest; this year’s theme is: Believe, Dream, Inspire.

She chose to draw a portrait of herself in the future, following her dream of playing football, believing in her herself, and inspiring other girls and boys to play sports, stay strong, and to follow their dreams as well.

This morning, she was thrilled to learn that her drawing won first place at the school level in her category and grade level and will advance on to the school district level in the competition.

I continue to be inspired by her courage to follow and share her dreams; I am proud of her inner strength and belief in herself. In sharing what she loves, I believe that she is opening doors for those around her and helping others believe in themselves and follow their dreams as well.

Swim goggles

Although we’re back at school, signs of summer vacation are still present in our house. This morning, rays of sunlight illuminated our daughter’s swim goggles, which are still hanging on the back of her chair.

Reflected light at the drawing table

In my constant search for interesting light to photograph, I noticed the window light, reflected beautifully from the white drawing paper to my daughter’s face.
